Itinerary
Start your journey with a short scenic drive to Budhanilkantha, home to the iconic reclining Vishnu statue. This is also the entry point to Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park.
After obtaining the national park permit, begin your uphill hike through dense forests of oak, rhododendron, and pine. The trail is peaceful, filled with birdsong and occasional wildlife sightings.
Continue hiking toward Baag Dwar, a sacred site and the main source of the holy Bagmati River, which later flows past the revered Pashupatinath Temple. The name “Baag Dwar” translates to “Tiger’s Gate” and refers to the beautifully carved stone spout in the shape of a tiger’s mouth from which the river emerges.
From Baag Dwar, trek further to the top of Shivapuri Hill, the second-highest point around the Kathmandu Valley. Enjoy stunning views of Langtang, Ganesh Himal, and even Manaslu on clear days.
Take a break, have your packed lunch or snacks, and enjoy the peaceful Himalayan setting
Begin your descent through the same forest trail, taking your time to enjoy the surroundings.
Return to Budhanilkantha and drive back to the city.
