Before Himalaya Downhill Mountain Biking, you do a warm-up biking in the northern valley of Kathmandu, where you ride through the greenery region via Balaju – Mudkhu – Chaurgoan – Jhor – Tokha – Budhanilkhanta, enjoying the best single track, zigzag trail, a sharp turn, a steep climb, and a sweet downhill with a professional biking guide. As for the accommodation, a homestay will give you the real taste of Nepal. Living in the house made up of stones and tiles watching day-to-day activities of local people either cutting grass on the fields or taking cattle for grazing nearby hills, people living a simple life even with eyes full of happiness and pride, is the way how to get to know the true essence of people residing behind the modern development of Nepal. The life you see here is completely away from modernization. People have no further hope of earning a better modern life as they choose to live a life of peace and self-esteem in the village without much struggle and shortages.

Itinerary

You could already be in Kathmandu, or you may be arriving on this very day. Anyway, we welcome you to Nepal! On this first day, we transfer you to your hotel and brief you about the trek if time permits. You will not do much except observe the ambiance around you and get acquainted with the country.

Overnight at a boutique hotel in Kathmandu.

At around 8:00 am, we host a pre-trip meeting at your hotel in Kathmandu and introduce your leader/guide. After the pre-trip meeting, your biking trip will start at around 8:45 am. You will have a support vehicle and a professional Biking guide at your disposal. We will then assemble our bikes and head toward the northern side of the valley for our adventurous bike ride. We ride through the lush green valley via Balaju – Mudkhu – Chaurgoan – Jhor – Tokha – Budhanilkhanta (47 km), which will take around 4 to 5 hrs. This is the best single track on the northern side of the valley. The Zigzag way through the rice paddies and semi-rural local villages, and you can test your skill on some fine sections of single track. The ride combines sharp, steep climbs, sweet downhills. There are many variations on this route, so you can choose and take assistance from your guide depending on your fitness and skill. Lunch can be done on the way at various restaurants available.

Our staff will pick you up at the hotel at 6:30 am and escort you to the bus station. The bus to Pokhara leaves at around 7:30 am, and the drive is 6 hours, including lunch on the way. A beautiful valley set on the banks of the Phewa Lake, Pokhara is also known for its panoramic views of Annapurna, Machapuchare (the shape of a fish tail) in the north, Dhaulagiri in the west, Lamjung Himal, and Manaslu in the east. It is smaller and much less hectic than Kathmandu, hence providing the perfect place to relax in the evening.

Numerous flights service the Jomsom airstrip early each day before the Kali Gandaki wind picks up by mid-morning. To get used to the altitude and the weather conditions, we assemble the bikes as soon as we land in Jomsom and ride the relatively flat river trail to Kagbeni, the border town of the recently forbidden Kingdom, Mustang.
As we head towards Muktinath. This is the highest point of this trip. The landscape is extremely dry and desert-like. You may come across a handful of trekkers and pilgrims, mainly from India, on their way to the holy temple with the eternal flame in Muktinath that burns from a natural gas source. Reaching the culturally and religiously significant site with stunning mountain views is quite an achievement.

With thrilling views of the Dhaulagiri and several other 8,000m peaks in sight, we begin our descent. On the way, we pass yak herds and experience the centuries-old lifestyle of the local people. We ride through Lupr, a place where black magic and human sacrifices (on dead bodies) are a part of the community rituals. We call it a day in Marpha – a picturesque community known for its apple orchards. The flagstone-lined village of Marpha is popular for apple farming. Don’t forget to try some local apple wine and brandy.
