Best Trekking Season in Nepal

Autumn (September–November)—Peak Trekking Season in Nepal

  • Why trek now?
Autumn is the most popular trekking season, offering clear skies, stable weather, and crisp mountain views. Post-monsoon freshness paints the landscape in vibrant greens, and the visibility is at its best.
  • Ideal for:
Everest Base Camp, Annapurna Circuit, Manaslu Circuit, Langtang Valley, and all high-altitude treks.
  • Highlights:
    • Stunning views of snow-capped peaks
    • Comfortable temperatures
    • Cultural festivals like Dashain and Tihar

Best choice for first-time trekkers and photographers.

Winter (December–February)—Off-Season, Yet Beautiful

  • Why trek now?
Winter brings cold temperatures, especially at high altitudes, but skies remain mostly clear and dry. While high passes may be snowbound, lower-altitude treks are perfect and peaceful.
  • Ideal for:
Ghorepani Poon Hill, Mardi Himal, Royal Trek, Chisapani-Nagarkot, and other short treks.
  • Highlights:
    • Fewer crowds
    • Serene trails and landscapes
    • Great for those who enjoy solitude

Avoid high passes like Thorong La or Larke La due to snow.

Spring (March–May)—Rhododendron Bloom & Clear Skies

  • Why trek now?
Spring is the second-best trekking season in Nepal. Warm temperatures, blossoming rhododendron forests, and excellent mountain views make it magical for nature lovers.
  • Ideal for:
Everest Base Camp, Annapurna Base Camp, Kanchenjunga, and Makalu region treks.
  • Highlights:
    • Rhododendron and wildflowers in bloom
    • Comfortable weather for trekking
    • Great visibility and colorful landscapes

Popular among wildlife lovers and botanists.

Summer/Monsoon (June–August)—Lush But Wet

  • Why trek now?
The monsoon season brings heavy rainfall, especially in central and eastern Nepal. Trails can be muddy and leech-infested, and mountain views are often obstructed. However, it’s a great time for trekking in rain-shadow regions.
  • Ideal for:
Upper Mustang, Upper Dolpo, and Nar Phu Valley are regions that receive very little rain.
  • Highlights:
    • Fewer tourists
    • Rich greenery and vibrant village life
    • Ideal for off-the-beaten-path adventures

Not suitable for beginners or those seeking clear mountain views.
